Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the Aerosols Project website (https://aerosols-project.com/) only.
This website is run by Creative Media, a department within The University of Birmingham. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
- there are duplicate ID’s due to the Elementor plugin
- certain parts of of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard

Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Not applicable.

Navigation and accessing information
User’s are able to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option).
Interactive tools and transactions
Some of our interactive forms are difficult to navigate using a keyboard.
Our forms are built with third party software (plugins) and ‘skinned’ to look like our website.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By September 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
360 imagery and video
We do not plan to further develop accessibility features in our 360 imagery and video because it is built using third party software and is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Online maps
We will try and ensure online maps are as accessible as possible by creating an accessible word document containing any essential information portrayed by the map, but online maps are currently exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Our accessibility roadmap, summarised below, shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this site. This roadmap is subject to change, and the site will continue to be audited and adjusted.
- We will check and update all images and video to ensure appropriate accessibility methods are being used (alt tags, captions etc)
- We will run a full audit of the website using Silktide and begin to adjust our website accordingly based on the findings of that audit
